Job description
Role Overview
Located at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth, this position supports the executive department and Royal Navy School of Physical Training by ensuring the safe operation of the swimming pool facilities. The Lifeguard's primary function is to maintain health and safety standards for all military personnel, civilian users with licenses, and establishment pass holders utilizing the pool.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise all swimming activities 7 days a week focusing on user safety.
- Prepare and clear the pool according to the programmed swimming schedule.
- Enforce Pool Safety Operating Procedures and Health and Safety guidelines.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the pool, equipment, surrounding areas, and chemical stores in line with safety protocols.
- Report any defects or emergency issues to appropriate managers and coordinate with engineers for maintenance of pool aquatic and heating systems.
- Participate in regular monthly training sessions and development as directed by the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) UK standards.

Qualifications and Compliance
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification accredited by the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS).
- Successful candidates will undergo security checks including enhanced criminal record screening and meet required personnel security standards.
- The role requires compliance with MOD’s Smoke-Free Working Environment policy and involves a probationary period of six months for new civil service entrants.
- Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK under specified nationality categories; sponsorship is not provided.
Employment Terms and Benefits
- Position is full-time, 37 hours per week, and based onsite in Portsmouth.
- Annual salary of £24,549 alongside a Defined Benefit Civil Service Pension Scheme contribution of approximately £7,111 (employer contribution 28.97%).

Additional Information
No relocation expenses are available. Travel expenses for interviews will not be reimbursed. Assessment includes submission of CV, a 500-word statement of suitability, interview, and a RLSS competency test for successful interviewees.
