Job description
Overview
Join the London Borough of Hounslow's Community Hub and Libraries team as a Library Courier and Assistant supporting the Library at Home service. This vital role involves collecting and delivering books, promotional items, furniture, and equipment across eleven libraries and four specialist services in the borough. The position also contributes to expanding and developing the Library at Home initiative, which delivers resources directly to residents unable to visit libraries.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport and deliver boxes of books (up to 20kg) to all borough libraries multiple times weekly.
- Sort books at library locations and central office; monitor and manage internal book storage and consortium collections.
- Adjust daily delivery routes to accommodate urgent requests, maintaining clear communication with staff to resolve issues.
- Occasionally deliver furniture and promotional resources to HMP/YOI Feltham to assist their library services.
- Support the Library at Home program by delivering books, audiobooks, and puzzles directly to vulnerable residents and care homes along planned routes.
Team Environment
You will be based with the Library at Home team and collaborate across the broader Community Hub and Libraries staff to ensure widespread resident access to books and information. The Library at Home team focuses on providing services to residents who cannot visit public libraries due to health or mobility limitations.
Candidate Profile
- Holder of a full clean driving license and minimum age of 21 for insurance.
- Experience driving various vehicles, including long wheelbase vans.
- Strong customer service orientation coupled with a friendly and proactive manner.
- Basic computer and ICT literacy.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
