About the role
This position offers the chance to lead a Service Delivery Team at Te Ao Mārama - Pāpāmoa Library & Community Hub, serving Tauranga’s largest suburb. The role suits someone who enjoys supporting local communities and has experience delivering library and public service operations.
This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, based at the Pāpāmoa Library and Community Centre, with working days from Sunday to Thursday.
What you will do
- Guide, support, and develop the team so they can perform well and deliver quality service.
- Use library and customer service expertise to support the lifelong learning and literacy needs of the Pāpāmoa community.
- Work alongside the Papamoa Community Centre to care for and promote the shared facility that houses both services.
- Make sure staff are equipped to answer customer questions, including handling difficult situations, calming disputes, and staying safe around aggressive behaviour.
- Ensure the team can provide accurate advice about Council services, including community engagement, bylaws, policies, procedures, and the use of Council systems and communication tools.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and colleagues across Tauranga City Council.
- Act as the responsible person for the Council facility, helping keep the library and community hub safe, welcoming, accessible, and active through programmes and community events.
What you need to succeed
- A tertiary qualification in Library Studies, Information Management, Business Management, or a similar field.
- At least 3 years of experience leading a library or customer service centre.
- Proven ability to coach staff and work through operational challenges.
- A calm, confident style and the ability to lead a team in a busy public-facing environment.
- Strong communication skills and a genuine focus on excellent customer service.
- A commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
- Willingness to deepen knowledge of te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and mātauranga Māori, and to support Te Tiriti o Waitangi through genuine partnership with tangata whenua.
