Job description
Position Overview
The Nanyang Polytechnic Library invites applications for the position of Librarian or Senior Librarian. This role involves overseeing and delivering comprehensive library resources and services tailored to the academic and research needs of the NYP community.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and improve various library management platforms including discovery search systems, proxy resources, the library's website, and ensure IT security and efficient operation of related functions.
- Plan and execute collection development strategies to guarantee the availability of relevant resources.
- Curate and develop content that provides industry insights across diverse subject areas to support teaching, learning, and research.
- Act as a Subject Resource Librarian by collaborating with academic departments to fulfill their information needs, including delivering digital and information literacy training.
- Oversee circulation services to maintain front-end operations effectively.
- Manage and organize physical and electronic records in support of NYP's records management policies.
- Design and lead both digital and onsite library events, training programs, and promotional initiatives to enhance collaboration with the broader NYP community.
- Participate in or lead projects, task forces, and committees aligned with library or institution-wide objectives.
- Suggest improvements to optimize workflows and increase operational efficiency; undertake other duties as required.
Requirements
- A professional qualification in Library and/or Information Science.
- Strong familiarity with library management systems and foundational programming skills such as HTML, XML, Java, or Python.
- Experience in PC and server upkeep, Windows OS, software applications, project coordination, system integration, and understanding of networking basics.
- At least three to four years' related experience, ideally within library services.
- Extra proficiency with digital tools and technologies aiding digital library initiatives is advantageous.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask efficiently while working collaboratively within a team.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, alongside strong organizational abilities.
