Role overview

The Leisure Centre Duty Manager will keep Faithlegg’s Estuary Leisure Club running efficiently on a daily basis, with particular emphasis on pool operations, safety, and hygiene. Working alongside the Leisure Centre Manager, this person will help deliver a high-quality experience for guests and members while supporting revenue goals and maintaining excellent standards across the pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and gym.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the leisure centre and make sure customer service standards remain consistently high.
  • Monitor poolside activity, including water testing, pool plant checks, hygiene adherence, and lifeguard performance.
  • Keep the changing areas, gym, pool, and all other leisure spaces clean, tidy, and well maintained.
  • Guide and support leisure team members, and help with training and ongoing development.
  • Provide swimming lessons when needed.
  • Encourage sales of memberships, fitness offerings, hotel leisure services, and promotional deals to help increase revenue.
  • Support control of costs, stock levels, and departmental budget performance.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety rules, emergency procedures, and hotel policies.
  • Respond to guest and member questions in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Assist the Leisure Centre Manager with operational planning and other tasks as required.

Candidate profile

  • Supervisory background in a hotel leisure centre or pool-based setting.
  • Sound understanding of pool plant systems and health and safety requirements for leisure facilities.
  • Pool lifeguard certification such as IWS/ILAM or an equivalent qualification.
  • National Swimming and Spa Pool Certificate (NSSPC).
  • An NCEHS/NCEF Fitness Instructor qualification or similar is desirable.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organisational ability.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Interest in fitness and commitment to guest service.
  • Good computer skills.
