Role Overview

The Legal Secretary will provide direct support to the Principal Solicitor in managing case matters. This critical role contributes significantly to advancing legal cases and upholding the firm's strong reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compose routine correspondence and court-related documents, and review and refine letters and legal papers.
  • Manage email communications and coordinate with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Perform basic file management tasks such as opening new files and filing paperwork.
  • Issue cost agreements and manage invoicing for ongoing matters.
  • Prepare briefs for solicitors and counsel.
  • Support the principal solicitor and practice manager by compiling monthly practice statistics.
  • Address requests from criminal and civil solicitors on active cases.
  • Conduct legal research as requested by principal and senior solicitors.
  • Organize files in preparation for conferences and court appearances, including creating briefs, indexing, and taking notes.
  • Assist with the daily scheduling of conferences, court commitments, and various administrative duties.
  • Perform other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the principal solicitor and practice manager.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a legal secretary or paralegal.
  • Strong skills in drafting legal documents and other correspondence.
  • Client-focused approach with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of pre-court and court procedures.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office and Google Workspace applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate strong dedication.
  • Capacity to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working under pressure.
  • Demonstrated initiative in managing personal workload and coordinating the workload of others.
  • Legal or administrative studies are advantageous but not mandatory.
