Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and oversee contracts including construction, EPC, purchase orders, work orders, amendments, and claims.
  • Support project teams on legal aspects of civil, mechanical, electrical, IT, and infrastructure construction activities.
  • Advise on contract risk management, variation orders, delay claims, liquidated damages, and strategies to avoid disputes.
  • Collaborate closely with general contractors, design engineers, consultants, and multiple service vendors involved in civil, mechanical, utilities, IT, and logistics.
  • Assist with legal elements of procurement for materials, equipment, machinery, labor, and vendor agreements.
  • Participate actively in negotiations with contractors, suppliers, and consultants.
  • Manage pollution control and environmental compliance, coordinating with regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure adherence to local and central laws governing construction; labor and contract labor laws; and environmental, safety, and industrial regulations applicable to large manufacturing plants.
  • Oversee site notices, audits, inspections, and approvals.
  • Identify and minimize legal risks during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Handle site disputes and claims, liaising with external legal counsel as necessary.
  • Proactively advise to reduce project delays and control cost overruns.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess LLB from a recognized university; LLM or additional certifications are preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years post-qualification experience, especially in construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in manufacturing plants or large industrial project settings.
  • Solid expertise in contracts related to construction (civil, mechanical, EPC, and services) and procurement negotiations.
  • Proficient with environmental and pollution control compliance.
  • Extensive on-site project experience beyond corporate office involvement.
  • Good understanding of civil, mechanical, and IT facets of construction projects.
  • Capability to operate autonomously as an on-site legal leader.
  • Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and problem resolution.
