Job description

About the Role

We are offering a temporary opportunity in our court team funded through 31 March 2027. This position involves a diverse range of legal tasks, providing the chance to develop expertise across multiple areas of law.

As a legal assistant, you will support the litigation team, primarily aiding the prosecutions lawyer with private prosecutions in Crown and Magistrates courts. Your work will include supporting National Trading Standards prosecutions and other related legal matters.

Key Duties

  • Drafting summons and information documents
  • Preparing possession claims in accordance with the Housing Act 1985
  • Organizing disclosure of housing files
  • Handling warrant applications
  • Issuing Notice to Quit for deceased tenants
  • Requesting previous convictions via the police network
  • Conducting research and administrative tasks for complex cases

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with strong proofreading capabilities. Experience managing tight deadlines in a dynamic environment and displaying flexibility is necessary. A qualification like ECDL or comparable experience indicating solid IT skills is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and specialized legal database systems is essential. This role suits candidates with administrative experience on various databases or those starting a career in a legal setting.

Work Arrangement and Additional Information

This job requires attendance at the York office two days a week with hybrid working options available. It can be considered for job sharing. Internal candidates interested in secondments should consult their managers before applying. The working arrangements will be agreed upon collaboratively during recruitment.
