Role Overview
The Legal Administrative Specialist position at GS-0901-07/09 involves supporting legal processes including reviewing firearm rights restoration applications, assisting with executive clemency, and preparing cases for attorney consideration. Additionally, this role entails conducting legal research and managing special projects as assigned by supervisors or team leads.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and investigate applications related to restoring firearm rights and executive clemency requests.
- Organize and prepare legal case materials for attorney evaluations.
- Offer legal administrative support and assistance.
- Conduct research on pertinent legal matters and undertake assigned special projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or national status is mandatory.
- Completion of a pre-employment background check including drug screening is required.
- Potential requirement to complete a one-year probationary period to assess job performance and suitability.
- Males born on or after December 31, 1959 must have complied with Selective Service registration or have an approved exemption.
- A USA Hire assessment must be completed within 48 hours of application closure.
- Position demands the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Qualifications for GS-07 Level
- At least one year of specialized federal experience equivalent to GS-05: assisting with legal document preparation and responding to legal inquiries; OR
- Completion of one year of graduate education relevant to the role’s duties; OR
- Superior academic achievement demonstrated by class rank, GPA, or honor society membership; OR
- A combination of education and experience meeting the full qualification threshold.
Qualifications for GS-09 Level
- One year of specialized federal experience equivalent to GS-07 involving legal document production using office software, legal administrative support, and legal research; OR
- A master’s or equivalent graduate degree or progressive graduate education relevant to the position; OR
- A combination of graduate education and experience meeting the full qualification requirements.
Education
Applicants relying on education must have degrees evaluated from accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign degrees must be equivalently evaluated and provided with English translations if necessary.
