The Opportunity

The business school is looking for research-active, collaborative academics whose work spans disciplines and focuses on the study of global value chains, especially resilience and sustainability. The role explores how value chains are structured, governed, and reshaped through network design, data-informed decisions, and circular or regenerative supply systems that can anticipate, withstand, and respond to disruption while improving traceability and sustainable impact.

There is a strong interest in research that links resilience and circular transition strategies with real-world trade-offs and inclusive upgrading pathways. This work aligns closely with the Centre for Supply Chain Management (CSCM) and the Circular Economy in Business Research Beacon.

The position also welcomes applicants working where international business meets B2B marketing, particularly those studying how firms plan, organise, and manage participation in global markets. Relevant themes include export strategy, participation in global value chains, strategic adaptation, and relational governance under institutional, environmental, and geopolitical uncertainty, including how firms build and protect capabilities, brands, and key relationships in volatile international settings.

Beyond research, the appointee will contribute to an engaging student experience through innovative teaching approaches and may teach across related subjects in the Department of Management and International Business and/or Information Systems and Operations Management. You will also be expected to contribute to university service, citizenship, and committee work at department, faculty, and university level.

The business school serves high-achieving students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supports scholars through a vibrant research culture, interdisciplinary centres, and international visiting expertise.

Employment Details

This is a permanent, full-time role of 40 hours per week, subject to continuation.

Pay will be determined by experience and achievements and aligned with academic standards. Indicative salary ranges are:

• Lecturer: NZ$99,788 to NZ$119,204
• Senior Lecturer: NZ$126,863 to NZ$158,904
• Associate Professor: from NZ$165,808

About You

You should be collegial, interested in interdisciplinary research and teaching, and able to communicate ideas and plans clearly.

A PhD in a relevant field is required, or you must be close to completing one if applying at Lecturer level.

Depending on the level applied for, you should demonstrate potential or a proven record in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, publishing in highly ranked journals, securing funding from reputable internal or external schemes, designing curriculum for a course or programme, and supervising PhD and Masters students through to completion.
