Role overview
In this field service leadership role, you will guide technicians on site, provide hands-on training and technical assistance, and ensure work is executed safely and to standard. The position functions like a working foreman role, overseeing setup, operations, assembly, equipment use, vehicle operation, routine upkeep, and site housekeeping at assigned project locations. The job may require travel to customer sites or relocation for project-based assignments.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the point of coordination between field service technicians and the engineering, technical services, and quality assurance teams.
- Deliver work that meets defined quality expectations while supporting a strong customer service experience.
- Plan schedules, direct field technicians, and oversee personnel safety during assigned activities.
- Coordinate maintenance-related work and ensure resources are used efficiently across projects.
- Manage the effective use of personnel, equipment, and materials for assigned jobs.
- Operate Class A combination vehicles and trailers, as well as Class B vehicles, for field support in interstate and intrastate settings when needed.
- Maintain all required electronic and paper logs, records, and tracking documents.
- Carry out inspection tasks and limited routine maintenance.
- Handle material movement tasks including inbound and outbound shipments, transport, staging, storage, and organization, along with receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and wire cutting as required.
- Complete quality assurance checks when necessary.
- Prepare, receive, and provide documentation for deliveries or pickups, and load, secure, and unload cargo to support timely service.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Valid CDL Class A license is required.
- 4 to 6 years of experience as a field service technician is needed.
- At least 2 years of experience driving Class A combination vehicles and handling cargo is required.
- Class 7 forklift certification is required.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach are important.
- Ability to make technical decisions and use sound judgment in a field environment with limited supervision.
- First Aid, AED, and CPR certification is preferred.
- OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
- Background in field service, construction, or trades work is preferred.
- Crane or rigging experience is preferred.
- Must be able to travel 75% to 100% of the time.
Work environment
The role may involve working in moving vehicles for extended periods, with frequent stops and starts, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work may also take place in warehouses that are generally well lit and ventilated, with moderate noise and strict safety requirements, including protective clothing and heavy equipment operation. Some assignments will be outdoors and may involve heat, cold, wind, and moisture, with occasional time in office or warehouse settings.
Physical requirements
This position is physically demanding and may require lifting packages up to 50 pounds, repeated bending or stooping, frequent walking over long distances, driving as part of the job, climbing ladders, using hand tools, and operating heavy machinery such as forklifts.
