About the Role

The Ministry of Justice in New Zealand invites applications for the position of Lead Advisor or Senior Advisor within its Sourcing and Commercial Management team of the Commercial Services unit. This role encompasses comprehensive sourcing responsibilities from initial market engagement and procurement planning through to contract award, implementation, and ongoing commercial oversight for a diverse range of procurement activities excluding property. Collaborating closely with business stakeholders, the incumbent will strive to deliver solutions that align with policy and optimize value for money.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop commercial and supplier management strategies while overseeing significant Ministry contracts.
  • Drive strategic commercial initiatives and improvements that support Ministry objectives and the wider Justice system.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze market trends and supplier dynamics to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Engage in complex negotiations with high-level stakeholders to maximize value on expenditures.
  • Mentor and grow the capabilities of team members and stakeholders, while enhancing personal expertise and contributing positively to the community.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proactive self-starter capable of managing pressure effectively.
  • Excellent adaptable communication skills to interact with varied stakeholders and handle competing priorities.
  • Background or qualification in procurement, commercial, or legal fields.
  • Competence in identifying and leveraging business opportunities considering market and strategic factors.
  • Extensive contract management and negotiation experience with deep knowledge of legal terms, risk management, and compliance.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a collaborative and supportive team approach.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Government Procurement Rules and their application in complex scenarios.
  • Commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • Lead Advisor: 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
    Senior Advisor: 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.

Compensation

Annual salary for Senior Advisor ranges between 99208 and 127683 NZD, while Lead Advisor salaries range from 130129 to 168062 NZD, commensurate with experience and skills.
