Role overview
As a member of the Environmental Services team, this role supports the Covenant Health Group’s mission and values by handling linen and resident garment processing for the facility. The position involves collecting soiled items, preparing them for laundering, operating washers and dryers in line with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practices, and ensuring clean articles are delivered to resident rooms. It also includes maintaining laundry usage records, flagging quota adjustments and extra stock needs to hospitality supervisors or managers, and carrying out additional duties as assigned.
What the job involves
This position is responsible for sorting, washing, repairing, pressing, stacking, and storing linens and garments. Work also includes moving clean and dirty linen and using laundry equipment safely and efficiently. The work must be completed with little direct supervision.
Work setting and conditions
This is a unionized position governed by the CUPE 408 St. Michael's Collective Agreement. The role is based in multiple hospitality units at St. Michael's Health Centre and is a regular full-time position (FTE 1.00). The schedule is daytime work with 7.75 hours per shift, 5 shifts per cycle, weekends off, and statutory holidays worked when required. The role is physically demanding and takes place in a busy environment with exposure to temperature changes, noise, and soiled linens that may contain bodily fluids.

Required qualifications
Completion of Grade 10 or an approved equivalent is required. Candidates must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, and should have basic computer skills. The role also requires the ability to lift and push up to 50 pounds (22.7 kg), follow directions and guidelines, and work accurately under deadlines in a fast-paced setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 is preferred.
Training and team involvement
The role includes participation in departmental meetings and programs, as well as helping train and orient new staff and students when needed.
Other requirements
Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-moving, repetitive environment and able to maintain high standards of sanitation and cleanliness. They must also be able to work statutory holidays when necessary.
