Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree in forensic science, criminal justice, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a latent print or fingerprint examiner

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of or commitment to acquire the International Association for Identification (IAI) Latent Print Examiner certification within two years of hire
  • Valid driver's license required at hire; non-Florida license holders must obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days following employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years’ experience working as a Latent Print Examiner in an accredited Latent Print Unit
  • Current IAI Latent Print Examiner certification

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform automated fingerprint searches using systems like the Biometric Identification System to quickly identify unknown latent prints from incident scenes
  • Carry out technical and scientific analyses of evidence submitted by law enforcement to support criminal investigations and intelligence development
  • Assess the quality of developed latent prints to confirm suitability for comparison
  • Analyze, compare, and identify latent fingerprints, palm prints, and footprints, both inked and photographed, against established standards
  • Create photographic enlargements to illustrate conclusions
  • Leverage the Biometric Identification System to generate candidate matches for latent print comparisons and document findings to support legal processes
