About the Role
This role involves utilizing your laboratory skills to ensure the quality of asphalt materials used in significant infrastructure projects across Western Australia. The position involves a mix of hands-on laboratory analysis and field sampling activities at active construction sites. You will work primarily from our NATA-accredited labs located in Gosnells and Hope Valley along with regular visits to live project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct testing of asphalt, bitumen, aggregates, and related construction materials according to Australian Standards, MRWA specifications, and WA Test Methods.
- Prepare samples, perform tests, document results, and maintain accurate laboratory records following NATA/ISO 17025 quality systems.
- Regularly perform coring and sampling on-site alongside paving crews to ensure material compliance.
- Monitor product quality during production and paving processes and support quality assurance activities.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring safe operation at all times.
- Assist in investigating product performance issues and test findings as necessary.
- Participate actively in toolbox talks, safety programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with production, paving, and operational teams to meet project goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Techniques, Construction Materials Testing, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in asphalt testing, construction materials testing, or a laboratory environment.
- Current driver's license and valid General Construction Induction (White Card).
- Understanding of asphalt testing procedures, Australian standards, and quality assurance methods.
- Attention to detail with strong skills in accurate record-keeping and reporting.
- Physically fit and comfortable conducting sample collection outdoors.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong commitment to safety principles and compliance with Zero Harm policies.
Desirable: Familiarity with WA Test Methods and Main Roads WA specifications.
