Job description
About the organisation
LIC is a dairy industry co-operative owned by farmers and has supported herd improvement in New Zealand for over 115 years. Its work spans genetics, testing and diagnostics, farm software, and customer support, all aimed at helping farmers make better daily decisions.
As a long-standing co-operative, LIC works for farmers, their families, and rural communities now and into the future. Its success relies on the people who work on-farm, in laboratories, and in support roles behind the scenes.
About the role
This seasonal opportunity is based in the Liquid Semen Laboratory at the Newstead site and runs from September through December. The lab is responsible for providing fresh bull semen to farmers throughout New Zealand for artificial insemination.
The environment is busy and process-driven, with a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and teamwork.
Work schedule and season details
- The assignment begins in September and finishes in December.
- Working days and hours will depend on operational demand.
- A minimum of 40 hours per fortnight is guaranteed, rising to as many as 40 hours per week during the busiest processing periods.
- During peak season, the laboratory runs seven days a week.
- The roster follows a 5-on, 2-off pattern, with the two days off taken together; these are not fixed to weekends.
- Early start times may be required.
What we are looking for
Prior laboratory or production experience is helpful but not required, as complete training will be provided.
Ideal candidates will be careful, dependable, comfortable working to procedures, and able to contribute positively in a large team.
