Laboratory Classroom Assistant (Music)

Job Overview

This role involves supporting a credentialed teacher in delivering lessons within a lab environment, such as Music labs or other specialized educational settings. The assistant aids in instructional delivery, student support, equipment use, and clerical tasks while maintaining safety and classroom policies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the assigned classroom teacher to align instructional activities.
• Provide individual or group assistance to students with assignments, including those using technology-based learning tools.
• Guide students in using lab-specific equipment, demonstrating practical usage and ensuring maintenance through cleaning and minor repairs.
• Supervise student activities to ensure appropriate, safe, and compliant equipment use per district guidelines.
• Support the administration of tests for student placement or progress and assist with grading and record keeping.
• Prepare reports analyzing student performance and complete clerical tasks such as copying, filing, and attendance.
• Assist the teacher by making relevant phone calls when necessary.

Qualifications and Knowledge Requirements

• Possess a high school diploma or GED, with additional education or experience relevant to the particular lab specialty.
• Familiarity with vocational and/or computer-assisted learning environments and Microsoft software applications.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact tactfully and patiently.
• Competency in basic arithmetic operations and the capability to interpret safety protocols, instructional manuals, and procedures.
• Ability to produce routine reports and respond effectively to questions from students individually or in groups.
• General computer proficiency matching the specific lab requirements.

Physical and Work Environment Demands

• Regular physical activity including walking, handling objects, talking, and hearing; frequent sitting; occasional standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or climbing.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
• Vision requirements include near and distance vision, color and peripheral awareness, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Work conditions may expose the employee to mechanical parts, wet or humid environments, heights, fumes, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and electrical hazards; noise is generally moderate.
