Job description
Role overview
This position supports kitchen hygiene and back-of-house cleanliness at a hotel property in Hayes, England. The role focuses on keeping dishwashing, waste handling, sanitation, and general kitchen support tasks running smoothly so food service areas remain safe, organized, and compliant.
Core duties
You will operate and care for cleaning tools and equipment such as the dishwashing machine, hand-wash stations, pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor. Daily work includes washing and sanitizing kitchen surfaces, tables, tools, knives, and equipment, and making sure clean items are stored in the correct places.
Other responsibilities include using detergent and sanitizing solutions in the three-compartment sink, checking cleaned items and re-processing anything that still needs attention, spraying rack-loaded items with hot water to loosen food residue, and sorting, soaking, washing, and re-washing silverware where needed. You will also break down dirty bus tubs, empty trash bins, maintain the dumpster area, mop assigned spaces, dispose of glass safely, and separate cardboard and recyclable waste.
Safety, standards, and teamwork
The role requires consistent attention to company policies, safety rules, sanitation procedures, and security practices. You must report accidents, injuries, maintenance concerns, and unsafe conditions promptly, complete required safety training and certifications, and use appropriate PPE and lifting methods to prevent injury.
You will also be expected to protect company equipment and other assets, communicate professionally, and work cooperatively with colleagues and other departments. Maintaining quality standards and handling other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors are also part of the job.
Physical and hygiene requirements
This is a physically active role that involves lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. It also requires standing, sitting, or walking for long periods, as well as reaching overhead and below the knees and performing repeated bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
Personal hygiene practices are important in this kitchen environment, including disinfecting hands before handling food, wearing suitable footwear, and using a hat or hairnet when required. Cleaning chemicals and supplies must be stored correctly and kept separate from food items.
Additional instructions
You are expected to follow hazardous material handling procedures, including the correct use and disposal of chemicals and reference to safety data information when needed. Proper operation and storage of tools, equipment, and machines is required, along with keeping hand-wash stations fully functional and sanitation closets organized.
Routine tasks also include cleaning the dishwashing machine itself, including spray arms, jets, and exterior surfaces, ensuring chlorine levels are correct in the sink process, and allowing washed items to air dry before storing them in the right area.
