Job description
About the role
Hotel Indigo Torquay is hiring Kitchen Porters to support its expanding team and help deliver the brand’s distinctive service style. The property sits on the English Riviera, overlooking Tor Bay and close to well-known beaches, walking routes, Torre Abbey, the harbour, and the area’s food scene. The hotel aims to create a memorable stay that feels refreshing, imaginative, and rooted in the character of the local seaside area.
There are different working arrangements available, including part-time shifts from 8 hours per week and full-time hours of 40 per week.
What you’ll do
- Keep the dishwashing station tidy, safe, and free from hazards while loading and unloading dishes in a busy kitchen.
- Work alongside chefs and the wider kitchen team to maintain smooth, clear communication.
- Carry out sanitising tasks across kitchen work areas using cleaning chemicals and following health and safety requirements.
What we’re looking for
- Someone who can work well on their own with limited direction.
- Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach.
- Prior experience in a busy kitchen is helpful, though not essential.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and health and safety rules is desirable, but not required.
Pay and benefits
The role pays £12.60 per hour and includes guaranteed hours, paid overtime, a free meal during shift, paid holiday, and enhanced sick pay. Tronc may also be paid monthly where the role qualifies.
Additional benefits include access to extensive training, career development opportunities across the world, and 2 paid volunteering days each year for a cause of your choice. Colleagues can also access worldwide discounted hotel rates, reduced food and beverage pricing while on employee rate, friends and family rates, and savings on shopping, experiences, and retailers through the benefits portal. Wellbeing support includes generous maternity and paternity pay, a 24/7 employee assistance programme, and access to mental health first-aiders.
Eligibility and equal opportunity
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK. The employer supports an inclusive and accessible hiring process and can provide adjustments or support if needed at any stage. The organisation is an equal opportunity employer and considers applicants without discrimination based on protected characteristics.
