Position Summary
The Regional Enforcement Services department seeks a full-time temporary Kennel Attendant for the Regional Animal Pound, a joint initiative between the City and County of Grande Prairie. Reporting to the Poundkeeper, this role involves comprehensive animal care within the facility. Duties encompass cleaning and sanitizing kennels and grounds, ensuring animal health and welfare, issuing licenses and tickets, collecting fees, and maintaining detailed enforcement documentation.
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect all kennels, the facility, and surrounding grounds to maintain hygiene standards.
- Provide day-to-day care and ensure the wellbeing of animals housed at the facility.
- Issue tickets and licenses and handle fee collection as part of enforcement services.
- Complete accurate records and documentation related to animal control and enforcement activities.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Minimum requirement of a secondary school diploma; further education in animal sciences or bylaw enforcement is advantageous.
- Prior experience in animal control, enforcement, shelter, or pound environments preferred.
- Physically capable of performing labor-intensive tasks and lifting animals or cages up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work despite exposure to unpleasant odors and no allergies to animals.
- Comfortable occasionally working independently.
- Strong written communication skills for record keeping and documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of animal behavior and breed characteristics.
- Capability to interact professionally with the public.
- Willingness to engage in required training to support operational effectiveness.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules including weekends and statutory holidays.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Contract Details and Work Schedule
This temporary role is contracted for 18 months, ending on March 31, 2028. The standard workweek consists of 40 hours spread from Sunday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Overtime and work during weekends or holidays may be required to meet service demands.
Compensation and Benefits
