Job description
Position Overview
Join Taronga Zoo's esteemed Exotic Fauna Precinct as a dedicated Keeper specializing in the care and management of exotic mammals including carnivores, primates, and ungulates. This full-time opportunity is based in Mosman, New South Wales, and offers a unique chance to contribute to global conservation efforts while providing exceptional animal husbandry and engaging visitor experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate autonomously to deliver safe, high-quality animal care and management adhering to Taronga’s policies, workplace health and safety (WHS), animal welfare standards, and relevant legislation.
- Uphold Taronga’s Animal Welfare Charter by maintaining the five freedoms to guarantee outstanding care and wellbeing for all animals.
- Effectively communicate conservation messages aligned with Taronga’s values to inspire behavioural change among visitors and staff.
- Provide exceptional guest experiences that encourage repeat visitation and advocacy.
- Collaborate with a dynamic team that includes colleagues, volunteers, and students to achieve the zoo’s objectives.
- Adhere to sustainability protocols to support Taronga’s environmental goals and reduce ecological impact.
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of a current NSW C Class Driver’s License or eligibility to transfer an unrestricted license.
- Successful completion of tuberculosis (TB) screening.
- Up-to-date vaccinations against zoonotic diseases as per Taronga's requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a paid NSW Working with Children Check, at personal expense.
Additional Information
The annual remuneration ranges from $61,962 for trainee keepers to $107,396 for senior keepers, including base salary ($54,669 to $94,755), superannuation, and leave loading under the TCSA Salaried Employees Award.
