Position Overview

Powerex Corp., the energy marketing branch of BC Hydro, is seeking a Junior to Intermediate IT Business Analyst for a 1-year term with high chances of extension depending on performance and team compatibility. This role emphasizes project and application delivery within the IT team.

Key Responsibilities and Opportunities

  • Provide end-to-end support for IT projects by independently gathering and documenting business requirements.
  • Participate in system testing and assist in resolving troubleshooting issues related to IT applications.
  • Work on a variety of IT initiatives, including maintenance and enhancement of both in-house developed and vendor-provided software.
  • Support activities such as testing, documentation, deployment, and improvements in operational reporting as part of the Business Analyst team.
  • Serve as a vital communication bridge between business stakeholders and software developers.
  • Enhance your skills in analyzing, collecting, and managing business needs, while gaining practical experience in project management tasks like backlog grooming and sprint planning.

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline is mandatory.
  • Between one and four years of progressive experience in business analysis, IT project delivery, or closely related roles.
  • Proficiency with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and experience collaborating directly with development teams to address business challenges.
  • Basic understanding of SQL or comparable data querying/manipulation tools.
  • Experience in solution development, configuration management, or working directly with developers is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities tied to dissecting and resolving business or technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are necessary for effective stakeholder interaction.
  • Efficient organizational and time management skills to balance multiple demands and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proactive attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and eagerness to independently tackle and solve problems.

Working Conditions and Additional Details

  • This is a full-time position requiring onsite work five days per week in Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • Candidates must reside in the Vancouver/Lower Mainland area and have valid legal authorization to work in Canada.
  • After-hours support may occasionally be needed, with paid overtime for these responsibilities.
  • A background verification and reference checks will form part of the hiring process.
