Job description

About Global Media Registry

Global Media Registry (GMR) is a German non-profit social enterprise focused on improving transparency, accountability, and pluralism across the media and information landscape. The organisation works alongside partner groups, regulators, universities, and civil society actors around the world.

About the Media Ownership Monitor

The Media Ownership Monitor (MOM) is GMR’s leading media transparency programme and operates in more than 26 countries. It tracks the most relevant and opinion-influencing media outlets in each country, maps their ownership and related interests, and places the findings in the context of the local legal and market setting. The results are published on a multilingual website created with a local partner organisation.

Role Overview

The Junior MOM Project Manager supports the execution of one or more country-level MOM projects and works closely with the Senior MOM Project Manager. Each project follows a set cycle that includes launch and researcher onboarding, data gathering and profile development, and finally website publication. This position is designed to provide practical coordination and production support throughout the process, rather than independent end-to-end delivery, and offers a clear route toward owning projects independently in future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track everyday progress against project plans and prepare meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Offer initial editing support for written content, including narrative sections and outlet, owner, and company profiles.
  • Prepare and send outreach messages to media outlets and Freedom of Information requests as part of the research workflow.
  • Coordinate translation-related work for website materials.
  • Keep project folders, records, and documentation organised and up to date.
  • Support uploads into content and database systems such as Craft and Pimcore across different projects and language versions.
  • Arrange logistics for workshops, advisory-group meetings, and events, including launch and dissemination activities.
  • Work in GMR’s main database (Pimcore), including assigning and tracking IDs, with scope to grow into independent and later admin-level ownership of this responsibility.
  • Prioritise and manage personal workload within the broader project timeline.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in journalism, media research, and project coordination.
  • Strong planning skills, a high level of accuracy, and comfort handling several tasks at once.
  • Solid writing and editing ability.
  • Confidence using fully digital, cloud-based tools such as Google Workspace, Drive, and Slack; experience with structured data is beneficial, and CMS exposure is welcome but not essential.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity, including understanding of the do-no-harm principle when supporting research in sensitive environments.
  • Strong interest in developing toward independent editing, methodology application, and project management over time.
  • English fluency is required.
  • French is a strong advantage.
  • Additional languages are helpful.
  • International travel is required at important project milestones.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work with an experienced, diverse, and internationally oriented team.
  • Flexible hybrid working setup, with some in-person presence required at the Berlin office.

Additional Information

This role is based in Berlin, Germany and is a contract position. The work setting is onsite with partial hybrid flexibility. The role involves international travel at key points in the project cycle.
