Role Overview

This is an operational role involving direct supervision where the incumbent handles daily network operations support. Core duties include maintenance and administration of network tools and equipment, assisting in installations, managing daily site activities, ensuring SLAs are met, and proactively maintaining service quality.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the fibre optic network including Outside Plant (OSP), Inside Plant (ISP), and related infrastructure components.
  • Manage fibre network segments such as backbone and last-mile connectivity, while driving SLA and KPI compliance.
  • Supervise both internal teams and vendor personnel to ensure smooth network operations.
  • Utilize optical fibre tools such as OTDR and power meters effectively.
  • Manage transmission equipment knowledge encompassing SDH and DWDM technologies, ensuring equipment hygiene and spare inventory availability.
  • Handle infrastructure components including SMPS, battery banks, and other maintenance tasks.
  • Adhere to established health, safety, and company compliance measures.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network faults identified by the Network Operations Center (NOC).
  • Undertake preventive and corrective actions to minimize fibre cuts and ensure timely restoration of optical fibre circuits within SLA commitments.
  • Coordinate activities such as Point of Presence (POP) hygiene, spare card management in ISP and maintenance contracts for SMPS, battery banks, and diesel generators in infrastructure.
  • Liaise with other telecommunication operators, government agencies, and private authorities for operational coordination.

Qualifications and Experience

  • B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication, Electrical, or Telecommunications Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional experience ranging from 1 to 3 years in the telecom sector, specifically in transmission and access network operations.
  • Detailed understanding of optical fibre communication (OFC), SDH, and DWDM technologies.
  • Hands-on exposure to OFC transmission equipment manufactured by brands like ECI, Tejas, Huawei, and CIENA.
  • Strong knowledge of power and infrastructure systems.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in technical support roles within high-availability, 24/7 operational environments.
  • Familiarity with network and operating system fundamentals.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in using fibre splicing machines, OTDR, laser sources, and optical power meters.
  • Competence in managing team resources to meet customer KPIs efficiently.
