Junior Clinical Fellow in Care of the Elderly and General Medicine

About the Role

The position is for a Junior Clinical Fellow specializing in General Medicine, Care of the Elderly, and Acute Medicine, located at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital. The role requires participation in a resident on-call rota at a frequency of 1 in 22 and provides an additional supplementary banding payment for clinical fellows. The primary responsibilities focus on delivering effective and appropriate medical treatment for inpatients, including acute assessments, involvement in acute medical and frailty admissions, monitoring and managing patients during hospital stays, and contributing to outpatient services and multidisciplinary meetings. This position works within a substantial medical and multidisciplinary team under direct supervision by consultants who are recognized Royal College of Physicians trainers.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide timely medical care to inpatients, including acute evaluations and patient monitoring.
• Take part actively in acute medical and frailty intake processes.
• Participate in outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings to coordinate patient care.
• Offer cover for colleagues during annual leave and study leave for on-call shifts and daytime duties.
• Maintain clinical competence and operate within the scope of professional competency guidelines and supervision norms.
• Supervise more junior or unqualified staff and students to ensure patient care quality and address any issues.
