Job Purpose
The role involves planning projects and identifying product requirements specifically for digital channels. The Junior Buyer will purchase suitable product quantities aimed at meeting demand, maximizing profits, and maintaining a commercially viable product range. The position also supports the digital team with precise product data and acts as a liaison with external brands to ensure fulfillment of requirements, facilitating technical initiatives that improve online conversion.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and implementation of digital buying strategies to achieve leading market outcomes.
- Establish and maintain strong, reciprocal relationships between brands and the digital team.
- Analyze market trends, consumer preferences, sell-through rates, and seasonal demands to shape digital buying practices aligned with online consumer expectations.
- Manage the online exposure calendar, aligned with consumer needs and key brand product launches.
- Support and propose promotional calendars based on consumer trends, market launches, revenue results, stock availability, and brand/digital opportunities.
- Identify and propose valuable brands for the online platform, assisting the Digital Buyer in negotiations and brand introductions.
- Monitor online stock levels and collaborate with the planning team to maintain optimal inventory matching consumer demand.
- Ensure promotional merchandise availability on time and in adequate quantities online.
- Analyze activity reports and advise the Senior Digital Buyer with recommendations when needed.
- Coordinate Gifts with Purchase (GWP) campaigns online, ensuring item creation and stock readiness before launches.
- Collaborate with PR and Marketing to guide product selection for brand campaigns.
- Engage brands to participate in digital initiatives such as Virtual Try-On (VTO), Skin Analysis, and Power Reviews, supplying necessary information and data support.
- Promote awareness of the Bloomingdales beauty box loyalty and rewards program among brands, sharing performance updates and encouraging participation by providing SKUs for the boxes.
- Stay informed about market developments and competitor strategies across digital-only and omnichannel platforms.
- Review weekly sales and buying feedback reports to evaluate performance against targets and recommend adjusted buying strategies.
- Prepare periodic analyses for business and principal stakeholders to advise on stock management, including continuation or liquidation of product lines in collaboration with Planning.
- Assist with contract negotiations to secure favorable commercial terms.
- Oversee stock management activities including negotiating stock returns, swaps, and return-to-vendor (RTV) processes when necessary.
- Though not a formal management role, demonstrate leadership by mentoring junior team members, delegating tasks, and providing developmental feedback.
Qualifications & Experience
- University degree in any discipline preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in beauty buying or retailing.
- Strong knowledge of the beauty industry and enthusiasm for e-commerce.
- Proficient negotiation and project management capabilities.
- Competence in data analysis to support decision-making.
- Ability to foster and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, including brands and principals.
- Proficiency in English required; Arabic language skills are a plus.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent planning, financial acumen, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel and expand professional networks.
