Job description

Role overview

This is a 4-month contract role for a Junior Artworker supporting the creative team on newspaper books and related add-ons. The position is based in London, England, United Kingdom, with the option to work from home and some travel into the London office preferred.

The business specialises in personalised books built from a private archive of more than 2 million original newspapers. Following a major brand refresh and website migration to Shopify, the company has recorded 300% year-on-year growth over the past 12 months. It is now part of Penguin Random House, alongside its parent company.

The role reports to the Creative Director and is focused on producing accurate, consistent artwork that follows brand standards and technical requirements. Work will include adapting template-based content, preparing materials for print and digital delivery, and helping create pictorial content for the Deluxe upgrade and other book add-ons.

Key duties

  • Create and adapt templated Deluxe content to support book production.
  • Prepare artwork files for both print and digital output.
  • Rework existing designs into different formats and page layouts.
  • Help retouch images for marketing materials.
  • Check that artwork aligns with brand rules and production specifications.
  • Partner with designers, copywriters, and researchers to keep creative output accurate and consistent.
  • Handle several tasks and deadlines while maintaining close attention to detail.
  • Support wider creative production work whenever needed.

Skills and knowledge

  • Comfort with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Good understanding of layout, typography, and visual consistency.
  • Awareness of print production workflows is preferred.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style.
  • Confident using computers and systems.
  • Positive, hands-on attitude with a willingness to learn.
  • Interest in sports, particularly US sports, would be an advantage.

Contract details

This is a temporary appointment running for 4 months. The working pattern is 37.5 hours per week, and the hourly pay rate is between £15 and £16.
