Job description

Role overview

This full-time permanent position in London sits within the Royalty Tracking & BI function and reports to the Director of Tracking & BI. The role blends data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence to support Writer & Publisher Relations, Finance, Royalties, and Copyright teams. You will help ensure income from global affiliates is tracked correctly, surface insights that improve transparency, and spot opportunities to increase revenue across existing and emerging markets.

The job calls for someone who is well organised, able to prioritise effectively, and quick to adapt when business needs change. A proactive mindset, strong data storytelling ability, and comfort working through unclear business questions are important. You will partner with multiple stakeholders to clarify needs, align deliverables, and build dashboards and reports that make intelligence easy to access across departments. The work includes recurring reporting, one-off analysis, large datasets, and clear visual communication of findings.

Working arrangement

The position follows a hybrid setup with 3 days per week in the local office in London, United Kingdom.

Key responsibilities

  • Build, refine, and support dashboards that help address business problems.
  • Carry out ad hoc analysis, prepare reports, and present insights to senior leadership.
  • Assist with royalty income analysis for external clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Help maintain and improve processes used to monitor income over time.
  • Look into income discrepancies and payment issues together with cross-functional colleagues.
  • Stay current on incoming statements from PROs, CMOs, and direct licences to support revenue tracking.
  • Support audit-related investigations with accurate analysis and written commentary.
  • Strengthen technical capability and sector knowledge through ongoing project work.
  • Work with stakeholders to capture requirements and respond to business challenges.

Required experience and capabilities

  • Hands-on experience using Tableau to create, develop, and maintain dashboards.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, including querying, joining tables, and applying case logic.
  • Intermediate Excel ability, including formulas, pivot tables, and charts.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and prioritisation skills, especially under pressure.
  • Clear communication skills and a practical, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Strong numerical ability and excellent attention to detail.

Nice-to-have knowledge

A working understanding of how publishing and royalty income flows across different rights and revenue streams would be beneficial, especially across radio, live performance, audio visual, and digital channels, including major DSPs.

What success looks like

Within the first 3 months, you should be building a solid understanding of Kobalt’s royalty tracking processes, BI tools, and reporting expectations, while confidently supporting dashboard upkeep, income tracking, and reporting needs.

By month 6, you should be independently maintaining dashboards, contributing to income tracking work, investigating anomalies in payments, and producing analysis that improves transparency and supports decision-making.

By year 1, you should be a dependable business partner within the team, managing recurring reporting and ad hoc analysis, suggesting process improvements, and delivering insights that help maximise revenue and support accurate royalty reporting.

Behavioural strengths

  • Analytical thinking: uses data to identify patterns, investigate issues, and support informed decisions.
  • Curiosity and problem solving: enjoys working through complex data and ambiguous business questions to find practical answers.
  • Collaboration and communication: works well with cross-functional teams and can translate data into clear insights for technical and non-technical audiences.

Interview process

  • Initial screening call with the recruitment team.
  • Interviews with the hiring manager and wider team.
  • Final-stage interview that includes an onsite task.
  • Feedback is provided at every stage.

The company aims to complete the recruitment journey from application to offer within three working weeks, although occasional delays may occur. If timings change, the recruitment team will keep candidates informed.
