Company Overview

AGEM Bio Pte. Ltd. is pioneering a transformative platform for the engineering, manufacturing, and deployment of cell and gene therapies. The company is advancing a lead clinical program targeting glioblastoma, expected to enter Phase I trials in 2026/27. Joining AGEM Bio offers a unique opportunity to be part of an emerging biotech at the outset of its commercial journey, receiving mentorship directly from an experienced CFO and the chance to develop into a senior finance leadership role as the organisation grows and engages in international partnerships.

Role Summary

This role is ideal for an ambitious junior accounting or business operations professional eager to join one of AGEM Bio's first finance team members. Reporting directly to the Fractional CFO, the candidate will perform core accounting responsibilities alongside operational tasks including procurement of laboratory consumables, invoicing, and HR administrative duties. The work environment blends scientific precision with start-up agility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the general ledger and chart of accounts within the cloud accounting platform (e.g., Xero).
  • Handle accounts payable and receivable, including invoice preparation and distribution to clients, agents, and partners.
  • Assist in compiling monthly management accounts, bank reconciliations, and supplementary schedules.
  • Support GST filing processes and coordinate with outsourced accounting partners for tax submissions and compliance.
  • Prepare audit documentation and liaise with external auditors.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of finance SOPs and internal policies under CFO guidance.
  • Ensure proper filing and archival of all finance records and contracts.
  • Manage purchase orders and coordinate procurement of lab materials with scientific personnel.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, participate in stock counts, and alert management when reorder levels are met.
  • Engage with external suppliers and distributors regarding pricing, delivery, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Monitor budget alignment of purchase orders and report variances to CFO.
  • Assist in establishing procurement SOPs and supplier records as the company grows.
  • Administer payroll in coordination with outsourced partners and ensure compliance with government requirements.
  • Maintain employee records, monitor leave, and manage CPF submissions.
  • Support onboarding processes including document management, equipment tracking, and IT access.
  • Assist with HR reporting related to grant funding and headcount milestones.
  • Provide general administrative support consistent with a small start-up setting.
  • Aid in preparing budget templates, variance analyses, and fund usage reports for board and investor review.
  • Participate in Series A fundraising documentation and data management as needed.
  • Engage actively in mentoring sessions aimed at professional growth toward senior finance roles.

Candidate Profile and Eligibility

  • Applicants must be Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents.
  • Diploma or Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Possess 1 to 3 years of commercial accounting experience; strong internship records from recent graduates are also welcome.
  • Prior experience in startup environments, life sciences, healthcare, or research sectors is advantageous but not essential.
  • Genuine interest in biotechnology and life sciences along with intellectual curiosity about AGEM Bio's mission is important.
  • Comfortable working within a lean resource setting with broad responsibility and self-direction.
  • Pursuing qualifications such as CPA, CA, or ACCA is encouraged but not mandatory.
  • Mature professionals returning to work with appropriate accounting skills are encouraged to apply.

Key Skills and Competences

  • Fluent in written and spoken English; proficiency in Mandarin is a plus due to regional operations.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel.
  • Experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks; familiarity with system setup or migration is advantageous as well as openness to workflow automation implementations.
  • Capability to multitask across finance, operations, and HR functions without compromising accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills with effective independent deadline and deliverable management.
  • Collaborative and humble approach suited to close-knit scientific teams.

Performance Indicators

  • Consistently deliver timely and accurate monthly closing and management accounts.
  • Ensure zero significant errors in GST filings and statutory compliance reports.
