A growing organization in Etobicoke, Ontario is looking for a Junior Accountant to join its finance team. This is a strong fit for an accounting professional who is working toward CPA certification and wants broader exposure across several operating entities. Key responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute to the full-cycle accounting process across multiple entities and support the finance team in daily and period-end tasks.
- Handle full-cycle accounting activities across several entities.
- Create and record journal entries accurately.
- Manage accounts payable processing and keep vendor information up to date.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Help maintain an accurate and reliable general ledger.
- Assist with financial reporting and preparation of working papers.
- Support audit, tax, and compliance-related work.
- Look for ways to improve processes and increase efficiency.
- Partner with internal teams and help with ad hoc finance projects.
- Work closely with finance leadership on reporting priorities and business initiatives.
- Contribute to a cooperative, high-performing team culture.
- Take ownership of a range of accounting duties while continuing professional growth.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will bring a solid accounting foundation, good technical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Currently pursuing CPA designation or actively enrolled in the CPA program.
- 2 to 5 years of accounting experience, including exposure to full-cycle accounting.
- Good understanding of accounts payable, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- Experience supporting financial reporting and keeping the general ledger accurate.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize work in a busy environment.
- Comfort working independently while also collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to learn, take responsibility, and support different areas of the business.
Preferred background
- Experience in mining, manufacturing, industrial, construction, natural resources, or similar operational settings.
- Prior exposure to multiple entities or business units.
- Experience in a small to mid-sized company with broader accounting responsibilities.
- Full-cycle accounting experience in an industry environment.
