Janitorial Cleaner - Virginia Tech (All Shifts)

Role overview

UG2 is hiring a Janitorial Cleaner to work across Virginia Tech buildings and nearby areas under the guidance of a Janitorial Supervisor or Manager. The position focuses on keeping spaces clean, safe, and presentable while delivering strong customer service. A willingness to learn proper cleaning methods is important.

Core duties

• Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors and stairways.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms.
• Wipe down sinks, counters, microwaves, and refrigerators in break areas.
• Replenish supplies in restrooms, break rooms, and common spaces.
• Remove trash, replace liners, and clean waste containers when needed.
• Dust and clean desks and office furniture that are not cluttered.
• Wash windows and clean windowsills.
• Keep janitor closets neat, organized, and safe.
• Maintain janitorial tools and equipment in clean, safe, working condition.
• Use chemicals correctly by following proper labeling and dilution procedures.
• Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
• Keep vending closets orderly, safe, and organized.
• Handle other routine maintenance tasks as assigned.

• Interact with leaders and other stakeholders.
• Communicate with customers, visitors, and clients.
• Work cooperatively with fellow employees.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of relevant experience in customer service and/or facility services.
• A valid driver’s license is considered an advantage.
• Prior floor care experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Solid customer service mindset.
• Ability to manage several tasks and priorities at once.
• Careful attention to detail.

Physical and work conditions

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Role requires organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work in different physical positions such as standing, sitting, walking, bending, and performing repetitive motions.
