Overview

We are partnering with a top-tier Investment Bank to recruit an Investment Banking Associate specializing in Technology sector coverage, located in Chicago, IL. This role involves leading deal execution activities across various tech domains such as software, SaaS, fintech, internet, IT services, semiconductors, and tech-enabled services. The associate plays a critical, client-facing role, acting as an intermediary between senior bankers and analysts by managing entire workstreams, mentoring junior staff, and maintaining direct client and investor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of M&A, equity issuance, debt financing, and strategic advisory mandates.
  • Develop and update complex financial models including discounted cash flow, leveraged buyouts, merger models, and accretion/dilution analyses.
  • Perform valuations using comparables, precedent transactions, and DCF methods.
  • Create client-oriented presentation materials such as pitch decks, offering memoranda, and management presentations.
  • Coordinate thorough due diligence processes, collaborating with clients, legal counsel, and advisors.
  • Acquire specialized expertise in tech verticals including SaaS, cloud, AI/ML, fintech, and digital platforms.
  • Monitor industry developments, competitor dynamics, and emerging technologies, maintaining relevant databases of comparable companies and deals.
  • Support client meetings and help manage relationships with current and prospective clients.
  • Contribute to strategic idea development and recommendations.
  • Lead and mentor analyst team members, ensuring quality control on deliverables and managing workload distribution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a closely related field; MBA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Between 2 and 5 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, or comparable domains.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling and valuation techniques.
  • Strong passion for the technology industry.
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred experience includes prior exposure to technology company coverage, familiarity with SaaS-specific metrics such as ARR, CAC, LTV, churn, and growth efficiency, as well as involvement in transaction executions including M&A, IPOs, and private placements.
