About the Role
An elite independent investment bank renowned in the Australian M&A sector is seeking an Investment Banking Associate to join their mergers and acquisitions team. The firm provides advisory services to a broad client base including public and private companies, private equity sponsors, family offices, and business owners, focusing on complex transactions such as mergers, takeovers, and strategic deals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute substantially to both sell-side and buy-side mergers and acquisitions across public and private market transactions.
- Develop and sustain comprehensive financial models, valuation assessments, and manage various transaction-related tasks to support ongoing deals.
- Prepare professional client and transaction documentation such as information memoranda, presentations for management and boards, strategic evaluations, and transaction papers.
- Oversee the entire M&A process including identifying prospective buyers, conducting market research, managing due diligence, coordinating the process, and executing transactions.
- Carry out in-depth company, industry, and market research to bolster transaction strategies and provide expert client counsel.
- Collaborate directly with senior bankers on deal structuring, strategic counsel, client engagement, and negotiation efforts.
- Manage coordination among clients, counterparties, external legal and accounting advisors, and other participants in transactions.
- Assume increased responsibility for critical components of active mandates and mentor junior team members.
- Maintain exceptional standards in financial analytics, presentation quality, and transaction delivery.
Candidate Requirements
- Between 2 to 5 years of experience in investment banking or mergers and acquisitions advisory roles.
- Proven track record with transaction execution across buy-side or sell-side M&A.
- Preferred experience with public market M&A involving takeovers or schemes of arrangement.
- Advanced skills in financial modelling, valuation techniques, and analytical problem-solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong commercial insight with strategic thinking relating to corporate transactions.
- Capable of maintaining performance under high-pressure, fast-paced deal environments.
- Holding a degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, Accounting, Law, or a similarly related field.
- Professional credentials such as CFA or CA are advantageous but not mandatory.
Why Join This Team?
- Engage with complex and prestigious M&A deals involving top-tier Australian corporations, private enterprises, and financial investors.
- Gain hands-on experience with diverse transaction types including private treaty and public company deals.
- Work within an investment banking model that emphasizes impartial and strategic client advice through a fully independent platform.
- Operate in small, focused teams that enable meaningful responsibility and direct interactions with senior-level bankers and clients.
- Enjoy professional development opportunities across the entire M&A deal lifecycle instead of siloed execution roles.
- Join a well-respected firm known for its technical excellence and consistent transaction performance.
- Clear advancement paths for high-achieving candidates aspiring to senior advisory roles in M&A.
