Role Overview
The Investment Associate will join the Octopus Australia investment team based in either Melbourne or Sydney. Reporting to a senior team member, this role involves engaging in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and deployment opportunities across all renewable technology sectors. The candidate will contribute to shaping the future portfolio by working on projects spanning multiple technologies and jurisdictions within Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in renewable investment and development initiatives.
- Support the delivery of M&A activities, collaborating with internal teams and external advisors.
- Contribute to financial modelling, assessing project risks and bankability.
- Assist with preparing materials for investment committees and senior management reporting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Adapt to a dynamic, startup-like work environment, demonstrating flexibility between detailed analysis and high-level portfolio perspectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Understanding and interest in the Australian energy sector and renewable energy industry.
- Experience or familiarity with M&A deal processes and collaboration across multiple workstreams.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to prepare investment committee papers.
- Proficient in financial modelling and risk analysis.
- Previous experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate finance within a Big Four accounting firm preferred.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CFA, CA, or finance-related degrees are desirable but not mandatory.
- Commercial acumen to make informed investment decisions and present recommendations effectively.
- Strong organizational and project management skills to handle complex, shifting priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Team-oriented mindset with confidence to collaborate across all levels of seniority.
- Self-driven with initiative, resilience, and enthusiasm to succeed in a collaborative environment.
