Role Overview

Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) as an Investigator contributing to the integrity and fairness of occupational regulation across various licensing and registration schemes in Wellington for an 8-month fixed-term secondment. This role focuses on investigating complaints and breaches within occupational regulation, ensuring decisions are evidence-based, lawful, and support public confidence.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inquiries into complaints and alleged breaches across several occupational regulation schemes such as Immigration Advisers, Electrical Workers, and Licensed Building Practitioners.
• Analyze information thoroughly, identify critical issues, and apply relevant legislation to develop well-founded recommendations.
• Engage with complainants, regulated practitioners, Boards, and other involved parties to gather and clarify information.
• Prepare detailed reports that facilitate transparent and defensible decision-making processes.
• Assist in cases that progress to disciplinary hearings or courtroom procedures.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

• Experience in investigative, compliance, enforcement, or regulatory complaint management roles.
• Curious mindset with a strong attention to detail and the ability to critically evaluate information objectively.
• Proficient analytical abilities to handle substantial volumes of data and make sound judgments.
• Knowledge and capability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and procedures effectively and legally.
• Excellent written communication skills to draft clear and logical reports and advisories.
• Demonstrated discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive matters and interacting with affected individuals.
• Ability to communicate confidently with diverse stakeholders including legal representatives and regulatory boards.
• Familiarity with tribunal processes, regulatory Boards, or court proceedings is advantageous.
• Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• Legal authorization to live and work in New Zealand is mandatory.

• Salary ranges from $85,537 to $101,911 per annum plus KiwiSaver and wellness benefits.
