Job description
Role Overview
This permanent leadership position within the Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery (TWSD) Group at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) offers an opportunity to provide strategic guidance, organisational oversight, and trusted advice to the Deputy Secretary and the Leadership Team. Reporting directly to the Deputy Secretary, this role is integral to shaping direction and performance for a cluster managing significant regulatory and operational functions affecting New Zealand's economy and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the Deputy Chief Executive and Leadership Team of TWSD.
- Influence and contribute to the overall strategic direction and operational effectiveness of the Group and MBIE at large.
- Lead organisational planning and performance management activities across TWSD.
- Oversee critical programmes and ensure efficient operation of group-wide business management functions.
- Collaborate across MBIE and with wider governmental bodies to support cross-agency initiatives and interests.
Required Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills including building and guiding high-performing teams to meet organisational goals.
- Extensive experience advising ministers and senior executives in complex, large-scale organisations, with acute political insight and sound judgement.
- Strong familiarity with public sector systems, government planning, and budgeting processes.
- Excellent communication and relationship skills capable of fostering influence and collaboration across organisational boundaries.
- Analytical aptitude with a systemic perspective.
- Proven governance expertise and ability to manage multifunctional teams at senior leadership level.
- Eligibility to obtain and retain a top-secret security clearance.
- Willingness to undergo and clear a credit check due to financial delegation responsibilities.
