Role summary
Meta’s Central Investigations team works to reduce harm and improve safety across Meta technologies. This role is focused on identifying and reducing safety-related threats, with particular attention to terrorism, violent extremism, and related abuse patterns. The position calls for an investigator who can work independently, manage fast-moving risk, and collaborate effectively across the organization.
What you will do
- Examine threats linked to terrorism and violent extremism and assess how they may affect Meta, its products, and its communities, including ways malicious actors may use Meta apps and services.
- Handle complex investigations and perform detailed analysis of emerging threats across Meta technologies.
- Run several analyses at the same time while keeping priorities organized and deadlines on track.
- Track down abusive activity and judge the reliability of possible threat signals quickly and accurately to reduce the risk of harm.
- Partner with teams across the company, including Policy, Engineering, and Integrity, to support investigations and mitigation efforts.
- Collect, review, and combine relevant information to uncover possible abuse patterns.
- Regularly review graphic and sensitive material as part of investigations.
- Make timely, independent decisions in urgent investigations with limited supervision.
What the team is looking for
The ideal candidate brings strong investigative judgment, sharp analytical ability, and comfort working with large volumes of data. Experience with open source investigations is important, along with the ability to recognize credible threats and work with highly confidential information. The role also requires comfort with sensitive subject matter, including graphic violence, extremist material, religious and political content, and adult content. Candidates should be able to work after hours and on weekends when needed, and should stay current with emerging AI tools and capabilities.
Minimum qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- BA/BS degree in a relevant area, or equivalent experience.
- Proven investigative and analytical ability, including the skill to review large datasets and isolate critical, credible information quickly.
- Background working with sensitive subjects such as graphic violence, extremist content, a range of religious and political viewpoints, and adult content.
- Ability to protect highly confidential information.
- Availability for evening, weekend, and other after-hours work.
- Ongoing development of AI skills and familiarity with new AI technologies.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in investigations or analysis within law enforcement, security, risk, or safety environments.
- Subject matter knowledge of terrorist organizations and/or violent extremism actors, especially in relation to social media platforms, analytical tools, and online research tools.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience applying responsible and ethical AI practices, including risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality or accuracy review.
- Background in open source investigations or investigations conducted for a technology company.
- Experience working across distributed teams in different locations and time zones.
- Ability to use AI tools to improve or redesign workflows and create measurable gains in efficiency or quality.
- Advanced AI skill development, including prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration.
- Working knowledge of data tools such as SQL, Python, or other analytics and visualization tools.
- Ability to review and investigate threats in languages other than English across global communities.

Compensation and benefits
The base pay range for this role is $141,000 to $199,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Final compensation depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Meta also provides benefits as part of the overall package.
