Job description

About Concordia University of Edmonton

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) is a scholarly community that places a strong emphasis on academic freedom, preparing learners to become thoughtful independent thinkers, principled leaders, and contributing citizens. Located in Edmonton’s historic Highlands neighbourhood on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, the university serves nearly 3,000 students and is recognized for its small classes and strong teaching focus. Its size and student diversity create a setting where staff can build meaningful, sustained connections with students. CUE also values research across the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and management, with a long-term vision of becoming Canada’s leading small university.

CUE is committed to a workplace and learning environment built on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The university supports dignity and mutual respect for all and does not tolerate harmful conduct or language.

Role Overview

Working under the Assistant Registrar, Recruitment, the International Recruitment Coordinator serves as a key contact for prospective international students, answering questions and working with university departments to carry out the International Recruitment Strategy. The role also includes managing relationships with international recruitment agents through training, commission administration, contract negotiation, and ongoing communication.

The main focus of the position is to advance the international recruitment plan by engaging with international students, mature students, and other stakeholders in person and through travel. The role also contributes to domestic recruitment efforts, especially for international students already living in Canada. In addition, the coordinator represents CUE by sharing program and service information to encourage inquiries and applications through campus, off-campus, and virtual events, presentations, meetings, and information sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Office of Admissions and the Office of the Registrar to deliver the International Recruitment Strategy and related communication plan in support of enrolment growth and a more diverse international student population.
  • Build and sustain productive relationships with agents, high schools, prospective students, parents, and other external contacts.
  • Share university information with target markets and both internal and external stakeholders across CUE’s programs and services.
  • Plan and present recruitment sessions, and staff information booths, to generate interest, leads, and applications.
  • Review recruitment event data and use the findings to improve future outreach efforts.
  • Follow up on recruitment leads promptly and strategically to support student enrolment objectives.
  • Coordinate with departments, faculty members, and staff to support recruitment activities and gather program-specific details for promotional use.
  • Attend post-secondary fairs, career fairs, and similar events beyond standard hours, and travel to schools within CUE’s recruitment regions.
  • Respond to questions received in person, by phone, email, or mail in a timely and professional way.
  • Provide pre-admission guidance through appointments, walk-ins, group presentations, campus tours, and recruitment events, including information on programs, funding, careers, and student life.
  • Assess the needs of prospective students and connect them with appropriate internal or external supports.
  • Help prospective students move through the admissions process and transition smoothly from inquiry to application.
  • Present accurate information with tact and discretion so students are not misled or confused.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of admission requirements across all faculties and programs.
  • Coordinate and deliver on-campus and virtual recruitment activities such as Open House, Info Night, presentations, and tours.
  • Manage extensive travel arrangements, including advance logistics for overnight trips and multi-day out-of-town events.
  • Work with recruitment teams from other post-secondary institutions to align travel itineraries.
  • Contribute to customized promotional packages and help produce internal and external marketing resources such as viewbooks, tri-fold cards, newsletters, and other materials.
  • Plan, write, and deliver presentations, workshops, and supporting resources using PowerPoint or other formats.
  • Partner with recruitment colleagues and external collaborators to improve marketing and outreach materials.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new international recruitment agents to expand CUE’s network and reach.
  • Maintain organized communication with agents, conduct regular check-ins, and provide training sessions to improve their knowledge and effectiveness.
  • Strengthen engagement with current agents through proactive support and relationship management.
  • Oversee agent contracts and ensure commission claims are processed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor agent contractual obligations and maintain clear records for compliance, accountability, and transparency.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of secondary institutions in Alberta, across Canada, and internationally.
  • Ability to travel independently for extended periods.
  • Strong organization skills for handling multiple assignments and frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong record-keeping ability and professional phone etiquette.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate, protect confidentiality, and address conflict with tact and discretion.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities, including flexibility to adjust duties when needed.
  • Sound judgment within established guidelines and comfort working amid frequent disruptions.
  • Strong commitment to student service and a student-centred approach.
  • Self-directed work style with the ability to operate independently, manage travel, and lead projects with limited supervision.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills and experience with Google Workspace, plus the ability to learn new software quickly.
