Job Summary

The Hourly Human Resources Assistant supports the Human Resources team in delivering responsive, client-centred service to leaders, faculty, staff, and academic colleagues. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, this role helps coordinate the department’s daily operations, strengthens communication across the institution, and contributes to efficient and reliable HR service delivery.

This is a full-time temporary position with an anticipated end date of September 11, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Human Resources team’s point of contact when handling questions from employees, candidates, and members of the public.
  • Assist with recruitment and selection activities, including preliminary screening calls and interview scheduling.
  • Maintain records related to competitions, selection processes, and employee files.
  • Coordinate reference checks as well as academic, criminal record, and background verification processes.
  • Help organize and deliver onboarding sessions for new employees.
  • Support employee offboarding activities and exit interviews.
  • Submit requests for IT access, email accounts, and updates to internal intranet information.
  • Provide general administrative support to the department.
  • Take part in planning, organizing, and running employee events.
  • Contribute ideas and support for improving HR processes, practices, and service quality.
  • Assist with HR initiatives and projects that support the university’s strategic direction and institutional plan.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree or diploma is required.
  • Previous experience in an academic setting and/or in human resources is required.
  • Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail and multitasking ability, are required.
  • Experience managing several deadlines at once and working independently is required.
  • Strong digital and technology skills are needed, along with comfort working in a paper-free environment.
  • A satisfactory criminal record check is required.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $18 to $20 per hour.
