Position Overview
The Internal Audit Lead specializing in Financial Crime & Compliance will spearhead audit initiatives covering key domains such as AML, counter-terrorism financing (CTF), sanctions, fraud prevention, and customer due diligence (CDD/KYC/KYB). This role is dedicated to independently evaluating the robustness and effectiveness of financial crime prevention mechanisms, regulatory compliance efforts, and governance frameworks in alignment with the Central Bank of UAE (CBUAE) standards.
Audit Responsibilities
- Lead and manage comprehensive audit projects addressing financial crime and compliance facets.
- Design and implement risk-based audit plans encompassing both first and second line defenses.
- Review the architecture and operational efficacy of financial crime frameworks ensuring adherence to UAE regulations, corporate policies, and global best practices.
- Assess compliance-related functions such as horizon scanning for regulatory risks, change management tracking, monitoring and testing procedures, policy oversight, and management reporting.
- Identify deficiencies in control systems, thematic risk trends, and prospects to reinforce compliance and prevention strategies.
- Execute detailed thematic examinations on critical areas like transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and risk-based customer profiling.
- Continuously update knowledge on regulatory changes, enforcement experiences, and emerging financial crime threats.
Forensic Investigations
- Lead or assist in forensic reviews concerning suspected financial crimes, fraud incidents, or breaches in internal control.
- Interpret complex data sets and case information to detect suspicious behavior and control lapses.
- Collaborate with compliance and risk teams while maintaining audit independence and impartiality.
Data Analysis and Monitoring
- Use advanced analytical tools and techniques to uncover data anomalies, weaknesses in controls, and rising risks.
- Evaluate the data quality and timeliness used within compliance monitoring activities.
- Contribute to developing continuous auditing and monitoring systems within financial crime compliance.
Communication and Engagement
- Deliver comprehensive, risk-focused audit reports to the Head of Internal Audit with actionable recommendations.
- Effectively communicate findings to senior management, fostering understanding and prompt remediation actions.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to drive corrective measures.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Accounting, Finance, Economics, Law, or related fields; advanced degrees are advantageous.
- Over 7 years of professional experience in internal audit, financial crime compliance, or forensic investigation, preferably within banking, fintech, or regulated financial settings.
- In-depth understanding of AML, CTF, sanctions, fraud risk management, and compliance with CBUAE regulations.
- Expertise in compliance frameworks, second-line assurance activities including horizon scanning and change control.
- Demonstrated capability auditing financial crime programs, governance, policies, and regulatory reporting.
- Proficient in data analytics tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent platforms.
- Professional certifications like CAMS, CFE, CFF, CIA, or CISA are highly desirable.
- Exceptional analytical skills to investigate and diagnose root causes of control failures.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities, engaging with leadership and compliance teams effectively.
- Exemplifies professional integrity, skepticism, and discretion in managing sensitive data.
- Self-driven with strong organizational skills, capable of handling multiple priorities within a dynamic regulatory environment.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
