Job description

Role overview

COX is seeking an Interior Designer with around 5 to 6 years of hands-on experience who is ready for a role with real design influence. This position is suited to someone who wants more than production work: you will help guide projects, contribute to design decisions, and work within a large established practice with studios across every major Australian city and Auckland.

You will have the chance to take ownership of smaller projects, lead packages on larger ones, and support the growth of junior colleagues. The studio values people who are ready to step forward in their careers while still being part of a collaborative team.

What the role involves

The position spans the full project lifecycle, from early concept development and client discussions through documentation, coordination, and construction support. You will contribute to the shaping of material choices and spatial strategies across workplace, education, cultural, and public sector projects.

In addition to delivering your own work, you will help guide junior team members and contribute to a design environment where leadership is based on capability, not just title.

Why this studio

COX offers meaningful leadership exposure, with opportunities to act as package lead or manage smaller projects directly. The role is designed to support career growth rather than limit it, and the studio highlights a broader culture of recognition and progression.

The practice also references its support initiatives, including COX Women, a director-led program connected to 500 Women in Property. Team culture is reinforced through lunch-and-learns, regular talks, an employee assistance program, monthly staff lunches, drinks, and Friday wind-downs.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant brings a relevant design qualification, strong judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and teammates. You should be confident using Revit, Adobe tools, and CAD software, and comfortable making informed design decisions while supporting others in the process.

Application note

Applicants are asked to submit a CV, cover letter, and portfolio.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
