Job description

Overview

The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) is hiring an Instructional System Specialist focused on Elementary PK-5. This full-time role is based in Fort Liberty, North Carolina and centers on helping elementary educators and school leaders strengthen instruction and build effective, student-centered learning environments.

Key duties

  • Coach elementary PK-5 educators and instructional leaders through both face-to-face and virtual support.
  • Support school leadership teams with planning for school-wide implementation, including professional learning, time for embedded learning, and scheduling.
  • Help improve teacher practice in an elementary learning setting.
  • Assist in implementing elementary PK-5 instruction in student-centered environments, including the physical setup, academic supports, social-emotional learning, and daily routines.
  • Guide educators in using analyzed data to make teaching more effective.

Conditions of employment

Minimum qualifications

  • A master’s degree in Education is required for all ISS positions.
  • The degree work must come from, or be accepted by, a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Applicants must submit transcripts, including at least bachelor’s and master’s records.
  • At least 5 years of specialized experience is required in teaching, educational research, instructional materials development, educational testing, administration, or similar work in elementary and/or secondary education.
  • The experience must show successful use of educational principles, methods, and techniques and familiarity with current PK-12 developments, specifically in general education for grades PK-5.
  • Applicants must be currently certified or certifiable under DoWEA standards in general education for Prekindergarten or Kindergarten and at least one Elementary grade 1-5.

  • Learning theory, psychology of learning, or educational psychology.
  • Instructional design practices.
  • Educational evaluation.
  • Instructional product development.
  • Computers in education and training.

Education and foreign credential notes

Foreign degrees and coursework from non-accredited institutions must be evaluated before they can be accepted. Acceptable evaluation routes include review by a current NACES member, endorsement by a recognized regional-accreditation or state-education-certification list with the required documentation, or evaluation by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university. Graduates of non-accredited institutions may also validate undergraduate work through graduate admission and completion of at least 5 semester hours of credit at a regionally accredited graduate college.

  • Salary includes locality pay or a Local Market Supplement.
  • Multiple vacancies may be filled from this announcement.
