Job description

Role overview

Tesla’s Operations Manufacturing Training team is seeking a driven, energetic instructional designer to help build the learning programs that support manufacturing operations and the company’s wider mission of accelerating the world’s shift to renewable energy. This is a hands-on role for someone who can combine subject matter expertise with strong content design skills to create effective, polished learning materials across manufacturing processes.

The position calls for someone who enjoys working through difficult problems, creating new solutions, and continuously improving how training is delivered. A genuine enthusiasm for making world-class vehicles is important, as the pace and expectations of the role are demanding.

What you will do

  • Work closely with subject matter experts and internal stakeholders to build interactive, accurate, and engaging learning content for multiple audiences and formats, including online modules, webinars, instructor-led sessions, standard guides, web-based training, visual factory materials, and presentations.
  • Contribute to the broader Instructional Design function within Operations Training, including support for Manufacturing Training, Technical Maintenance Training, and Technical Quality Training groups.
  • Create new learning experiences and recommend improved layouts, interactive activities, and creative approaches that strengthen usability and make learning more effective.
  • Update and refine existing training assets, always factoring in audience needs, delivery format, and the clearest way to communicate the learning objective.
  • Manage several training-development projects at the same time, keeping work on schedule and within budget while adapting to changing priorities and scope.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and innovative groups to address training gaps using structured approaches such as ADDIE, while staying informed about current learning and development practices and tools.
  • Take on additional duties as needed to help build training standards that can be applied globally across teams.

What you need

  • A bachelor’s degree, ideally in a technical discipline, along with 7 to 10+ years of experience creating and developing training curriculum, plus exposure to technical or engineering concepts through work or education; equivalent experience may also be considered.
  • A portfolio or prior examples that demonstrate strong eLearning development, web-based training, technical writing, and standard guide creation.
  • Hands-on experience with learning-content tools such as MS PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, and TechSmith Camtasia, along with solid MS Office skills; experience with learning management systems is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management.
  • A collaborative mindset with the flexibility to work effectively both in a team and independently with limited supervision.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where priorities can shift frequently, while keeping communication organized and structured.
  • Curiosity about Tesla’s strategic goals and how learning and development can close workforce skill and knowledge gaps.

Compensation and benefits

This full-time position offers a competitive salary and, for eligible employees, access to a benefits package starting on day one of employment. Benefits include medical coverage with plan options that require no payroll deduction, family-building/fertility/adoption/surrogacy support, dental and vision plans with no paycheck contribution options, HSA employer contributions for eligible high-deductible medical coverage, FSA options, 401(k) with employer match, employee stock purchase plans, company-paid basic life and AD&D insurance, short-term and long-term disability coverage after a 90-day waiting period, employee assistance resources, paid sick time, vacation or flex time depending on pay type, paid holidays, backup childcare and parenting support, voluntary insurance options, weight loss and tobacco cessation programs, Tesla Babies support, commuter benefits, and employee discounts/perks.

The expected total compensation for this role is $80,000 to $120,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards and additional benefits. Final pay may vary based on job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and market location. Additional details about benefit participation are provided in the offer process.
