Role Overview

This position is for an Inspection Engineer or Assistant Inspection Engineer in the Mechanical - Static Equipment stream, supporting industrial inspection activities across multiple cities in India. The role sits within the Industrial Inspection Service function and reports to the Profit Centre Head for the relevant region.

Work Location

Opportunities are available in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bharuch, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Gandhidham, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Noida, Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara.

Qualification

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution is required.

Additional Qualification

  • Level II NDT certification in VT, RT, PT, UT, and MT is mandatory.
  • Professional memberships or certifications such as IWE/IWT, AWS, CSWIP, API, or Institute of Chartered Engineers are preferred.

Experience

Applicants should have post-qualification experience of 4 to 8 years for B.E. candidates or 5 to 12 years for DME candidates in inspection or QA/QC work.

Key Responsibilities

The selected professional will handle inspection and quality surveillance for shop fabrication and site construction in industries such as crude oil and gas refineries, petrochemicals, chemicals, and power. The work includes oversight of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, storage tanks, line pipes, cross-country pipelines, plant piping, structures, materials, and NDT activities.

Technical Expectations

  • Hands-on knowledge of NDT methods with valid ASNT or ISNT Level II or III certification in UT, RT, MT, PT, VT, or LT/ET.
  • Strong inspection capability along with effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Practical familiarity with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, and related components, including fabrication, welding control, heat treatment, inspection, testing, preservation, packing, and operation and maintenance.
  • Understanding of welding documentation such as WPS, PQR, and WPQ.
  • Working knowledge of plates, piping components, fittings, flanges, pipes, tubes, welded pipes, fasteners, gaskets, and associated material testing.
  • Exposure to valves, castings, forgings, and relevant API or ASTM requirements.
  • Experience with structural fabrication and erection to AWS D1.1 requirements.
  • Knowledge of piping fabrication and NDT under B 31.3.
  • Awareness of storage tank standards such as API 650 and cryogenic tank requirements under API 620.
  • Good command over national and international codes and standards including IS, ASTM, ASME Sections II, V, VIII Div. 1, and IX, along with API, EN, BS, DIN, and AD 2000.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, testing, and laying of oil and gas pipelines or line pipes at pipe mills.
  • Familiarity with pumps, compressors, and other rotating equipment, including performance testing and running trials against applicable codes such as API.
  • Experience with a third-party inspection agency will be considered an added advantage.
