About the Role
We are recruiting a Civils Estimator for a well-established multi-disciplinary Civil Engineering and Building contractor based in Warrington, North-West England. This full-time position offers an attractive annual salary of £75,000 plus benefits and presents a valuable opportunity for professional growth within a dynamic and supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver detailed estimating services by managing either individual projects or portfolios of projects.
- Evaluate potential risks through initial project documentation review.
- Develop tender estimates from first principles using Conquest estimating software, incorporating personal experience, subcontractor quotes, and material pricing specific to each tender.
- Perform site visits as necessary to assess unique site challenges, access issues, and other specific factors impacting tenders.
- Lead and take part in supplier and subcontractor negotiations during the tendering process.
- Engage in pre-tender discussions and approvals with senior team members.
- Participate in meetings with clients before and after tender submissions.
- Organize handover meetings with contract and commercial teams to ensure smooth communication and comprehension of tender complexities prior to contract finalization.
- Stay informed on inflation trends, currency exchange rates, and projected cost changes over project timelines.
- Solicit feedback from site teams regarding estimate accuracy and ongoing costs.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- HND or HNC qualification in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum two years experience within an Estimating Department.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods, outputs, and the correlation between these and market costs for tendering purposes.
- Competency in generating bills of quantities from drawing take-offs manually or via estimating software.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tender projects effectively in a dynamic and changing setting with limited supervision.
- Strong computer proficiency, especially with Conquest Series Q, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project software.
Desirable Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree (BEng or BSc) in Civil Engineering is preferred.
- Possession of a CSCS card.
- Motivated to learn from experienced colleagues to deepen understanding.
- Familiarity with CESMM, SMM methods of measurement, creation of activity schedules, and contract sum analysis.
- Capability to work independently using various contract forms such as NEC, JCT, and bespoke contracts.
