About Whyte Bikes

Whyte Bikes is a distinguished British brand with over 25 years of innovation in cycling, known for award-winning mountain bike geometry, advanced e-bikes, and unique gravel bikes. With new investments and ambitious growth plans aimed for 2026 and beyond, the company is growing its Product Development team to design the next generation of bicycles.

Role Overview

The Industrial/Product Designer will be pivotal in developing the upcoming lineup of Whyte bicycles, focusing heavily on the expanding e-bike segment. Located at the Cheltenham R&D office, this role involves close cooperation with Engineering, Graphics, and Product teams to convert ideas, rider insights, and technical geometry into manufacturable and visually appealing bicycle frames and components. Responsibilities range from concept sketches to final production-ready designs, emphasizing frame construction, component fit, and the overall visual identity while ensuring high performance and aesthetic quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Engineering to assess new technologies, create product briefs, and advance designs from concept to production readiness.
  • Develop detailed, visually engaging bicycle designs from geometric layouts.
  • Take full ownership of 3D frame design, shaping the form and visual character of each bike.
  • Enhance prototyping processes by exploring advanced 3D printing options and vetting suppliers.
  • Lead the design efforts for e-bike platforms integrating modern drive systems into sleek frame solutions.
  • Evolve Whyte’s signature industrial design aesthetic across the product portfolio.
  • Design frame systems and components such as battery removal systems and rubber parts, maintaining uniformity.
  • Collaborate with Graphics to harmonize industrial and graphic design elements.
  • Build and refine prototypes and pre-production frames.
  • Ensure compliance with international safety and quality regulations in partnership with Engineering.

Candidate Profile

  • A bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
  • 3-5 years' professional experience in industrial or product design, preferably within consultancy or consumer products sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to take products from initial concepts to manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacture (DFM) principles.
  • Experience with 2D engineering drawings, tolerance application, and T1 sample assessments.
  • Knowledgeable about manufacturing methods including injection moulding, CNC machining, casting, and additive manufacturing.
  • Experience working with composite materials is advantageous.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling, surface modeling, and handling complex assemblies.
  • Expertise in product visualization and rendering techniques.
  • Excellent sketching and conceptual communication skills to quickly convey ideas.
  • Mechanical aptitude with practical insights into bicycle assembly, prototyping, and 3D printing.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a high-performing team.
