About AstaGuru
AstaGuru began in 2008 in Mumbai and has grown into a respected online auction house focused on art, antiques, and collectibles. The company positions itself as a curator of cultural experiences, with a strong emphasis on preserving artistic heritage. Its identity combines auction expertise with a deep commitment to authenticity, provenance, rarity, artistry, and craftsmanship. Over the years, it has become a preferred destination for original artworks and collectibles and has achieved record-setting results for artists such as A. Ramachandran, Jeram Patel, António Xavier Trindade, M F Husain, and others.
Role Overview
This position is based in Singapore and reports to the Managing Director within the Art Sourcing department. The main objective is to grow AstaGuru’s Indian and South Asian art category across Singapore and the wider Southeast Asian region by building strong sourcing channels, developing collector relationships, and creating a reliable flow of premium consignments. The role is centred on identifying culturally important works with investment potential while strengthening the company’s presence in the regional art market.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and source exceptional artworks across Indian and South Asian art, spanning modern, contemporary, and classical segments.
- Develop and sustain relationships with collectors, galleries, dealers, artists, and institutions throughout the region.
- Expand and nurture a network of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, along with art advisors.
- Support category growth by discovering notable artists, estates, and collections that can be sourced.
- Study, appraise, and verify artworks for authenticity, provenance, and auction suitability.
- Maintain a well-organized pipeline of consignments for auctions and private sales.
- Monitor market movements and pricing trends in Indian and South Asian art.
- Work closely with research, cataloguing, and marketing teams to shape catalogue content and narrative development.
- Represent the company at art fairs, exhibitions, and private collector gatherings.
- Travel within the region as needed to source works and deepen professional relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in Indian or South Asian art, preferably in galleries, auction houses, or art advisory roles. Exposure to international art markets is an advantage. A bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, or a similar discipline is required, and postgraduate study is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
The role calls for strong subject knowledge, market awareness, and the ability to assess artworks with confidence. The candidate should bring an established network in the art world, solid research and documentation ability, analytical thinking, and excellent communication skills. A polished professional manner, self-driven attitude, and entrepreneurial approach are important, along with an understanding of HNI and UHNI client behaviour and working knowledge of MS Office.
Additional Information
The role involves regional travel as part of sourcing and relationship-building responsibilities.
