Role Responsibilities

• Provide targeted support to individual pupils or small groups both within classrooms and in other settings to enable full participation in school activities.
• Act proactively regarding health and safety concerns related to pupils.
• Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), linking support efforts to the pupil’s specific goals, and help monitor their academic progress.
• Support pupils facing additional challenges including academic, physical, emotional, and behavioural difficulties; aid in enhancing their social and communication skills.
• Maintain accurate pupil records in collaboration with homeroom and subject teachers.
• Prepare resources tailored to help pupils access and engage with the curriculum effectively.
• Encourage pupil independence by teaching clear, practical strategies.
• Comply with all school policies, health and safety regulations, and demonstrate professionalism in dress, punctuality, and attendance.
• Participate in staff training sessions and meetings with other professionals such as speech and occupational therapists.
• Forge strong working relationships with teaching staff, maintaining open communication lines.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the principal or Head of Inclusion.
• Maintain confidentiality concerning formal communications with parents managed by the Head of Inclusion or teaching staff.
• Offer academic assistance through individual or group instruction as needed.
• Engage in monitoring and correcting students’ work per school policy and keep pupils focused and motivated.
• Prepare and supervise learning materials and environments, including classrooms and specialist lesson areas.
• Contribute to behaviour policy initiatives by supporting pupil self-esteem and discipline aligned with school guidelines.
• Deliver and attend interventions such as Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or ABA therapy to reinforce skills development.
• Accompany pupils on extracurricular activities, trips, and visits.
• Experienced Inclusion Assistants may mentor newer staff; newcomers may assist in mentoring roles.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a Diploma in Special Educational Needs is required.
• At least two years of experience working with SEN pupils is necessary.
