Job description

Role overview

This is a senior communications leadership opportunity based in the United States, supporting a partner organization that handles its own hiring process and candidate communication. The role is fully remote, with travel within the U.S. required for important events and stakeholder engagements.

You will help turn complex climate and energy transition work into persuasive, credible stories that build influence, attract funding, and engage the public. The position sits at the crossroads of strategy, advocacy, and storytelling, with responsibility for shaping how impact is presented to funders, policymakers, media, board members, and internal leaders. Success in this role depends on your ability to translate data, program outcomes, and organizational achievements into clear messaging that strengthens trust and broadens reach.

The role is especially focused on executive communications, thought leadership, and consistent storytelling across multiple audiences and channels. You will work in a fast-moving, mission-led environment and contribute to expanding visibility and credibility across the renewable energy landscape.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the strategy for impact communications across executive, funder, and external stakeholder audiences, ensuring organizational wins are framed in a way that supports influence and growth.
  • Drive executive communications, including CEO thought leadership, opinion pieces, LinkedIn content, and preparation for speaking opportunities.
  • Create monthly impact summaries and strategic board briefings for the Board of Directors.
  • Convert internal program data, research, and results into engaging external-facing narratives.
  • Oversee funder communications such as newsletters, webinars, and customized impact updates.
  • Work closely with research and program teams to turn findings into clear, audience-friendly communication materials.
  • Support media relations efforts through pitching, press list development, and coordination of media outreach.
  • Develop white papers, reports, and visual storytelling materials that showcase organizational impact.
  • Keep messaging aligned across social media, email, blog, website, and other digital channels.
  • Collaborate across functions to ensure communications remain consistent across campaigns and stakeholder groups.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years of experience in impact communications, public relations, funder engagement, or a closely related discipline.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor tone and content for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated success in turning complex data, research, or program outcomes into compelling, easy-to-understand narratives.
  • Experience managing executive-level communications and messaging for senior stakeholders.
  • Background in funder communications, nonprofit work, advocacy, or other mission-driven settings is preferred.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage several priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as CRM systems, content management platforms, and design software like Salesforce, WordPress, and Canva.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to synthesize input from multiple teams.
  • High attention to detail, strategic judgment, and strong organizational ability.
  • Self-directed approach with flexibility in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Benefits and compensation

  • Annual pay range of $100,000 to $120,000, depending on experience.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 403(b) retirement savings plan.
  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
  • Paid parental leave and sabbatical options.
  • Additional floating holidays and community service days.
  • Company-wide scheduled shutdown periods during summer and at year-end.
  • Remote work with regular travel opportunities across the United States.
  • A mission-focused workplace centered on climate impact and systems-level change.
