Role Overview
We are seeking two experienced Immigration Level 2 Accredited Solicitors / Directors to join a prestigious Legal500-recognized law firm. This permanent role requires leadership capabilities including overseeing solicitors, trainees, and caseworkers within a busy Immigration Department. The firm advises both corporate and private clients in over 25 practice areas from multiple locations across England and Wales.
Department Profile
The Immigration Team is noted for its expertise representing high net worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and skilled migrants, particularly under Tier 1 visa categories. Lawyers have backgrounds in barrister training and handle complex appeals reaching the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. They provide comprehensive services to both EEA and non-EEA individuals and families, including asylum cases dealing with vulnerable groups such as unaccompanied minors and victims of trafficking, torture, and domestic abuse.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Board to achieve set performance goals.
- Lead all immigration-related legal work providing technical oversight and expertise.
- Manage and supervise solicitors, trainee solicitors, and caseworkers, delegating cases appropriate to experience and complexity.
- Contribute to the training and professional development within the department.
- Handle various immigration cases including detained clients, victims of trafficking, asylum applications and appeals, entry clearance and judicial reviews.
- Prepare and manage legal aid funding applications and associated documentation.
- Draft witness statements, gather and organize evidence, and prepare applications fulfilling Home Office specifications.
- Represent clients at conferences and courts as needed.
- Maintain a proactive, client-centered approach with a strong interest in business development and marketing to support the firm’s growth.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Valid and clean Practising Certificate at application time.
- Level 2 membership in the Law Society Immigration & Asylum Law Accreditation.
- Dedication to delivering high-quality client service.
- Strong leadership and team management aptitude, fostering a collaborative and positive workplace culture.
- Experience supervising teams and meeting performance metrics.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with sensitivity to vulnerable clients.
- Proven ability to market legal services and expand business pipelines.
- Familiarity with publicly funded immigration cases and capability to manage privately funded work.
- Comprehensive immigration law expertise including some knowledge of adoption law.
- Advocacy experience is beneficial.
- Proficient with IT, especially Microsoft Office and document management systems.
